The capital of Washington State is located in Olympia, 60 miles south of
Seattle on the southern end of Puget Sound. The capitol buildings resemble
those found in our nation's capital in Washington, D.C. The buildings
are located on a 55 acre campus of beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens,
including a replica of Denmark's Tivoli Fountain. The centerpiece of the
Campus is the Legislative Building, a striking Romanesque structure with
a Doric colonnaded base rising to a dome encircled by a Corinthian
colonnade. The interior is outfitted in bronze, marble, and parquet
floors. Opposite the Legislative Building is the pillared Temple Of Justice,
a colonnaded building sheathed as are all the structures in Wilkeson
sandstone. To the west is the Governor's Mansion, a three story brick home
in the Georgian style.
